About Me

The person behind the photos

About Me

My name is Stefan Liebermann. I am an internationally award-winning landscape and night photographer and study at the Technical University of Ilmenau in Germany. I discovered my passion for photography in 2015. Luckily, since I was a child, my family has allowed me to travel to countries such as Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Cuba and Egypt. My passion for travel was born. Due to my closeness to nature and my desire to understand its complexity, I decided to study natural sciences. As a physicist with a focus on optics, I have the technical knowledge of optical systems such as cameras and lenses and in photography in general

Travel around the world

It all started in 2015 with a typical day as a laser physicist. I worked in the lab. Wait, I wasn't ready yet. I decided to change my life, to find myself. My desire is to combine my rationality with my emotionality in a suitable way. I quickly stumbled across photography, especially landscape and night photography. I was immediately fascinated by the underlying interplay between technical understanding, abstraction and creativity in combination with the opportunity to discover our world. It went straight into my passion. Right now I'm living my dream. As a Sony Europe Imaging Ambassador, I travel around the world with my camera to capture fantastic moments in nature - to create art only with the help of our fantastic Mother Earth. I love the beauty of nature with its phenomena.

Any landscape is a condition of the spirit.

Discover the night

I've been working on the "Discover the Night" project for about five years. The night shots were taken while traveling around our wonderful planet. With this project I would like to share my fascination for night photography. By using an extremely light-sensitive sensor, we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in a magical new world. It is a special form of art: not visible to the naked eye, but real! Modern photography with low-noise full-frame sensors enables an incredibly high dynamic range even at very long exposure times and high ISO values. This makes it possible to look into a beautiful world in a unique way. In addition, the dynamic range can be improved by digital image processing techniques such as the superimposition of several different exposures, resulting in spectacular shots of our night sky.

It's a special kind of art because it's not seeable with our eyes, but it's real!

The World from Above

A bird's eye view of the world. Aerial photography creates a new form of creativity. Nevertheless, it should be used with caution due to the numerous known risks. Common techniques such as panoramas, manual bracketing and hyperlapse shooting can be combined with a completely new angle. For me, it's the missing link of digital landscape photography!

We're always in the middle of two energies. Gravity is sinking you down; inspiration is pulling you up.
