About me

The person behind the photos

About me

My name is Stefan Liebermann. I am an internationally awarded landscape and night photographer and studied physics at the Technical University of Ilmenau in Germany. I discovered my passion for photography in 2015. Fortunately, my family enabled me to travel to countries like Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Cuba, and Egypt since childhood. My passion for travel was born. Due to my closeness to nature and my desire to understand its complexity, I decided to study natural sciences. As a physicist specializing in optics, I possess the technical knowledge of optical systems like cameras and lenses, and in photography in general

Travel around the world

It all started in 2015 with a typical day as a laser physicist. I worked in the laboratory. Wait, I wasn't ready yet. I decided to change my life, to find myself. My desire is to combine my rationality with my emotionality in a suitable way. I quickly stumbled upon photography, especially landscape and night photography. The underlying interplay between technical understanding, abstraction and creativity in combination with the opportunity to discover our world immediately fascinated me. It immediately became my passion. I'm currently living my dream. As a Sony Europe Imaging Ambassador, I travel the world with my camera to capture fantastic moments in nature - to create art only with the help of our amazing Mother Earth. I love the beauty of nature and its phenomena.

Any landscape is a condition of the spirit.

Discover the night

The "Discover the Night" project showcases my passion for our night sky. The night shots were taken during travels across our planet. With this project, I want to share my fascination for night photography. By using an extremely light-sensitive sensor, we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in a magical new world. It's a special form of art: not recognizable with the naked eye, yet real! Modern photography with low-noise full-frame sensors allows for an incredibly high dynamic range even with very long exposure times and high ISO values. This makes it possible to gaze into a beautiful world in a unique way. Additionally, the dynamic range can be improved through digital image processing techniques such as stacking multiple different exposures, leading to spectacular images of our night sky.

It's a special kind of art because it's not seeable with our eyes but it's real!
