About the book

The photographer

My name is Stefan Liebermann. I am an internationally awarded landscape and night photographer and studied physics at the Technical University of Ilmenau in Germany. As a Sony Europe Imaging Ambassador, I travel the world with my camera to capture fantastic moments in nature.

Since 2016, I have been sharing my fascination for night photography through my photos. By using an extremely light-sensitive sensor, we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in a magical new world. It is a special form of art: not visible to the naked eye, yet real!

Last year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I was unable to travel to spectacular locations to pursue my passion for astrophotography. But I took advantage of the time at home and continued working on my deep sky astrophotography. The great thing about deep sky photography is that you can do it anywhere in the world. With the right equipment, like the Sony α7R III, light pollution isn't an issue.

When the Fagradalsfjall volcano erupted in March 2021, we were able to witness up close the dramatic primordial violence that shaped our planet. The volcano's location and accessibility allowed people to visit the eruption site and marvel at and document the sheer power and wonder of our planet. When Stefan Liebermann in Germany saw the images, he knew he had to go and see the eruption with his own eyes.
